Alumni talks about Merchant Navy being a lucrative career option for students

It was a session with Chitkara University alumni for the present students of the University as Sukhjinder Singh from the 2004-2008 batch talked about Merchant Navy as a career option.

Sukhjinder did his degree in Mechanical from Chitkara University, Punjab, and is currently working as a third engineer with ESM. He motivated the students to be a part of Merchant Navy, a fast burgeoning career. Sukhjinder told the students that Merchant Navy is a lucrative career option due to several reasons like a handsome salary package that is tax-free; one gets a chance to go around the world and get paid for it.

He informed the students how to get into the profession the correct way. He urged the students to beware of fake agents, who lure youngsters and demand money. He gave a list of valid colleges and institutes that enable people to join Merchant Navy, stressing upon the pre-requisites needed to be a part of this profession.

He highlighted the kind of adventure that this career generates. Being in the Merchant Navy means spending months on a ship, being able to witness clear oceans, living in an absolute pollution-free environment, hopping from one country to another, getting access to some of the best cuisines of the world, getting a good amount of time with family after the sailing period and more.

He stated that there are non-combatant ships in Merchant Navy and these ships are used to carry cargo and various other things by sea. This mode is used when transporting things is not possible by rail, road and air. Students found the session extremely useful, informative, and inspiring and thanked the alumni for sharing his experiences with them.
