ACM Student Chapter, Chitkara and Department of CSE host “ACM India Student Chapter Summit 2021”

ACM Student Chapter, Chitkara University and the Department of Computer Science & Engineering hosted a national level event “ACM India Student Chapter Summit 2021” on November 13th, 2021. The event witnessed keynote talks, quiz competitions, panel discussions, and presentations by top 10 ACM India student chapters along with discussion amongst ACM India Council members. A total of 40 chapters across the country participated in the event. As a part of the event, students were imparted with cognizance of important parameters that help them in their academic journey and career progression.

The ACM India Council is an initiative by ACM, the world’s largest educational and scientific computing community, to raise the level and exposure of ACM operations in India. The following are some of the activities of the ACM India Council, which involve both academics and industry in computing:

Best Doctoral Dissertation Award: Awarded a plaque and a prize, as well as publication in the ACM Digital Library.

Grants for conference travel: ACM India and the Indian Association for Research in Computing Science (IARCS) have teamed up to offer a partial travel grant to Indian researchers presenting papers at top international conferences.

IRISS (Inter-Research-Institute Student Seminar): A chance for students to present their published work to academic and industry colleagues.

The Annual Academic Research Summit is an annual gathering of academic researchers. The Academic Research Summit is co-organized by Microsoft Research (MSR) and ACM India. Keynotes and discussions by eminent researchers from India and around the world are on the agenda. Faculty and research experts from leading academic institutions, as well as officials from industry and government, will be in attendance at the summit.

In India, high-quality computing conferences are organised showcasing computing research both in India and around the world. A quiz competition was also organized highlighting the various technical aspects of advancements in computing. Prof. Jayant Harisa, President, ACM India Council, Prof. Vasudev Verma (IIIT, Hyderabad), Prof. Yogesh Simhan, IISC, Bangalore; Ms. Shalini Kapoor, AI Director, IBM delivered their sessions which revolved around the most relevant and contemporary aspects of computing. Dr. Archana Mantri, Vice-Chancellor, Chitkara University appreciated the efforts of the whole team of students and faculty advisers in organising this event.
