The 72nd Independence Day was celebrated with gaiety and patriotic fervour at Chitkara University, Punjab campus. Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Vice-Chancellor, Chitkara University, hoisted the National Flag and reviewed the parade, which was organised by enthusiastic students.

Delivering the Independence Day speech, the Vice Chancellor congratulated everyone on the Independence Day and spoke about how the freedom fighters laid down their lives to secure independence for us. She urged all to “let not anything or anyone divides the Idea of our Beautiful India and its spirit. Its plurality is its strength. Let’s celebrate it”. Inspired by the address, students too pledged to work towards creating a self-reliant, self-supporting, self-sufficient India.

Independence lies at the core of creativity. Through art, University students presented a colourful cultural extravaganza, where students decked up in beautiful Tri-colour attires and accessories, sang songs and held skits portraying “Nai Soch, Nai Umang, Nai Azadi” for the India of their dreams. A special plantation drive was also carried out to mark India’s 72nd Independence Day. Dr. Madhu Chitkara initiated the drive and emphasised that the key to a greener planet is in our hands and that planting trees was an investment for the future generations.
