80Wash wins 2nd position at India International Science Fest
80Wash – a startup incubated by Chitkara University Research and Innovation Network (CURIN) won second position at the India International Science Festival 2022 organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Earth Science, Government of India. The team comprised Varinder Singh, Rouble Gupta, and Dr. Nitin K. Saluja.
The innovation of a nearly waterless washing machine was appreciated and rewarded as it entails immense water savings, requires no usage of detergent, gets clothes ready in 5 minutes, 81% reduction in viral infections through clothes, and substantial savings in setup cost.
The achievement is remarkable as it’s secured under the “NewAge Technology” theme after evaluating two rounds competing against 2000 participants.
The machine – 80Wash – is based on patented ISP steam technology that kills bacteria (sterilizes) using low-frequency (non-ionizing and non-polarising) radio-frequency based microwaves, and further removes the stain, dirt, and odor with the help of dry steam generated at room temperature. A single cycle of 80 seconds (7-8 kg machine) can wash up to five clothes using half a cup of water and no detergent, the startup says. The cycle can be repeated multiple times in case of hard stains. Usually, about 4-5 cycles can remove tough stains. On the other hand, its bigger machine (70-80 kg load) can wash 50 clothes with 5-6 glasses of water in multiple cycles (depending on the clothes).
