The 7th media fest ‘Udaan 2017’ of Chitkara School of Mass Communication concludes on rousing note
The 7th Media fest of School of Mass Communication, Chitkara University, concluded on 31 October 2017, in which 15 events pertaining to the media profession were held. Twenty-five media institutions, colleges and universities which offer media programmes at degree or post-graduate degree level, participated in the fest. Around 250 such students took part in it. It was declared open by Dr Madhu Chitkara, Vice-Chancellor of Chitkara University, Punjab, who said that as media is growing so it is the responsibility of the students to uphold the values of the profession. She added that in today’s world ethics are compromised to which media students must refrain from. She said that the fest provides a platform to the media students to implement theories into practical work where they participate in real media life-like situations.
The team of CT Group of Institutes, Jalandhar, won three first positions and two-second positions and emerged as the new champion who bagged the overall trophy. The unique feature introduced by the organising team in this event was that all the 15 events were broadcast live on YouTube and there were display screens in which the audience was able to watch all the events and also on their mobile phones as it was happening. The theme of the event was social Networking and the Mishmosh (collage making) competition was centred on Gadgets Addiction.
The fest comprises events like Tickle your Brain, Additivity, News Flash, Documentary making, Framebox, RJ Hunt, Mishmosh, Curtain Call, Scribble Pad, Tooncature, Layout Mania, Self`I’, Still photography and Taza Khabar. MoJo was a new competition in which the participants did a visual story through their mobile. The events were judged by media professionals and experts in the field.
‘UDAAN’ fest started with the lightening of the Lamp by Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Vice-Chancellor, Chitkara University and Mr. Sammy, visiting Professor from Metropolia University, Helinski, Finland.
Krishan Lal from IMCMT Kurukshetra University won the first prize in Scribble Pad whereas Inderjeet from Chandigarh University won the first prize in Catch the Glimpse. Gopal from IMCMT Kurukshetra University stood first in RJ Hunt and Povietpreet Kaur from CT Group of Institutions won the first position in News Flash. Manpreet, Priyanka and Saloni from DAV College for Girls, Yamunanagar, bagged first prize in Taza Khabar. Navdeep Singh, Kulwinderjit Kaur and Akash Singh from CT Group of Institutions won laurels for winning first prize in Additivity. `Sport Hub`, a documentary made by the students of CT Group of Institutes won the first prize. Rajat from Arya PG College Panipat won top position in Frame box.
In other events like Layout Mania, Sandeep from Doaba College Jalandhar won first prize and Abhishek Pandey and Anmol of Chandigarh University won in Tickle Your Brain (Quiz competition). Palak Sethi from GNDU, Jalandhar, bagged first prize in Tooncature and CAMS Punjabi University Patiala won in Curtain Call (theatre event). In the Self’I’ event, the award was won by Sachin Sharma from GNDU Regional Campus, Jalandhar, and Daksh representing the Central University of Haryana won Prize in a Mishmosh. MOJO event was won by Diljit and Sakshi’s team who represented Doaba College.
The prize distribution ceremony was held in the evening where Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Vice-Chancellor of Chitkara University, Punjab, gave away the trophies to winners. Dr. S.C. Sharma, Registrar of Chitkara University, was also present on the occasion. Dr. Ashutosh Mishra, Dean, School of Mass Communication congratulated the winning team and Prof (Emeritus) Abhijit Chatterjee lauded the effort of BAJMC and MAJMC final year students of School of Mass Communication who were a host of the fest and worked day and night for making it a grand success.
