Dr. Imali Dias received her PhD in Engineering from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, The University of Melbourne, Australia in 2016. She is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Information Technology and teaches Embedded Systems Development. She is the Academic Director of Makerspace and is also the Academic Coordinator for the Deakin-Chitkara partnership program. Her current research interests include Internet of Things, energy-efficient wearable technologies, optical wireless convergence, low-latency communication, and engineering education.
Dr. Lashi Bandara is a mathematician working on global analysis – an area that focuses on using techniques from mathematical analysis and operator theory to understand and solve geometric problems. He completed his PhD in mathematics at the Australian National University in 2013 during which time he was also an Australian-American Fulbright Scholar at Stanford and the University of Missouri. His undergraduate comprised of a Bachelor of Science as well as a Bachelor of Computer Science at Monash University. Prior to arriving at Deakin, he was a Lecturer in Mathematics at Brunel University of London and held postdocs at the Gothenburg University in Sweden and the University of Potsdam in Germany. Lashi also holds a Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy in recognition of his teaching.
Dr. Shantanu Pal is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at the School of Information Technology, Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia. Shantanu has extensive research experience and knowledge in Internet of Things, access control security, trust management, blockchain technology, mobile and cloud computing, distributed embedded networks, smart sensors applications, etc. He is a Senior Member of IEEE.
Dr. Son Tran serves as a Senior Lecturer in Data Science at the School of Information Technology, Deakin University, Australia. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from City, University of London, United Kingdom. Dr. Tran’s research interests are dedicated to building reliable, scalable, and robust artificial intelligence systems aimed at advancing the well-being of humanity. His research has been applied to diverse domains, including agriculture, healthcare, and environment. Dr. Tran’s contributions are featured in flagship AI conferences and journals such as AAAI, IJCAI, KR, IJCNN, ECIR, SIGIR, IEEE TNNLS, ACM CSUR, and ACM TMM.
Dr. Maksym Slavnenko is an Associate Lecturer in Computer Science at Deakin. With over 12 years of experience in commercial application development, Maksym excels in teaching all stages of the software development process. His research interests are Authentication and Authorization, Privacy, Security, and System Design. His current research focus is on improvements in the NationalID Federations’ privacy and interoperability. His favourite place to do research is his balcony, which opens to Melbourne’s dynamic city views.

Chef Hemant, hailing from Bombay, trained with Kempinski before refining his skills under Chef Anthony Marshall at Langham Hilton. He then ventured to Toronto’s Scaramouche with Keith Froggett and later joined Chef John Higgins at Le Royal Meridien King Edward. Hemant expanded his expertise at a Romantic Hotel in Germany and Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten in Hamburg. In Dubai’s Madinat Jumeirah, he helmed “Napa” restaurant. Since 2009, Hemant has been a Chef Technologist at George Brown, eventually becoming a Chef Professor. With a rich culinary journey spanning continents, Hemant’s expertise shines at the intersection of experience and passion.
Dr. Robin Yap, an accomplished expert in performance, learning, technology, and entrepreneurship, boasts a robust academic background and over two decades of global corporate experience. With dual doctorate degrees, specialized research, and publications, he’s been featured on CNN-Asia discussing corporate social responsibility and social media. Robin’s insights extend to CBC-Metro Morning, addressing topics like Productive Mobile Employees and Work-Life Balance. As a professor at George Brown College since 2009, he’s presented at over three dozen conferences worldwide. Currently, his research, sponsored by SSHRC-NSERC, delves into the journey of Canadian newcomers and their sense of belonging. Robin’s impactful contributions span academia, media, and corporate consultancy.
Allan has over 20 years of industry experience in advanced business analytics that include; strategy design, portfolio analytics, project implementation and results measurement. Allan’s passion is in solving problems by developing and delivering solutions that add value through transforming data into knowledge and actionable decisions that can deliver measurable bottom-line results. Allan’s industry spans information management, database design, marketing research, financial modelling and risk management. He has worked with risk management industry thought leaders such IBM/Algorithmics, as well as a full range of domestic and International Financial institutions including; Bank of Montreal, GE, and Scotiabank International. Research interests include; credit and market risk management, financial modelling, automated decision process re-engineering, direct marketing and analysis, research methods and design, and customer management strategy development.
Dr. Shashi Shahi is an expert in Supply Chain and Operations Management, specializing in Canadian industry challenges and using simulation-based optimization models to address supply and demand uncertainties. With expertise in Business Logistics Management, Business Data Analytics, and more, he integrates entire supply chains. Dr. Shahi holds a Doctorate in Supply Chain Management and multiple Masters degrees. He brings extensive experience from academia, research, and industry, including roles with the United Nations. Dr. Shahi’s contributions span teaching, research, and practical applications, making him a respected figure in the field of Supply Chain and Operations Management.

In 2018, Dr. Cohen returned from a 29-years of residency in China that included his stint as a Director and Executive Vice President of Universal Ideas Consultants Corp. For the past six years, Professor Cohen has been engaged as a sessional Lecturer, specializing in International Business and Strategy Management at Odette School of Business at University of Windsor. Renowned in entrepreneurship, SME start-ups, and market research, Cohen is a thought leader in ‘action learning’ with global acclaim for leadership development. He’s honored with the 2022 Global Forum Robert Dilworth Award and the ‘Global Research Excellence Award’ from the World Institute for Action Learning. Holding a BA, MA in Communication Arts, Postgraduate Diploma in International Business Management, MBA, and PhD, Cohen focuses on empowering entrepreneurs through action learning.
Alaa Alslaity is an Assistant Professor at Trent University, Canada, and an Adjunct Professor at Dalhousie University. He received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Ottawa, Canada. His Ph.D. thesis was nominated for the Best Thesis Award 2021. Dr. Alslaity has published several peer-reviewed articles, two of which have received the Best Paper Award, in addition to two book chapters. His research interests include persuasive technology, personalization, user modelling, Recommender Systems, and Human-Computer Interaction.
