Chitkara University is recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC), a statutory body of the Government of India established for the coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of higher education in India.
In the year 2010, Chitkara University was established by the Punjab State Legislature under, “The Chitkara University Act”. Chitkara University is a Government-Recognized University with the right to confer degrees as per the Sections 2(f) and 22(1) of the UGC Act, 1956.

Chitkara University has been awarded the rating of A+ by the prestigious National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), which places it among the 5% of higher education institutions (HEIs) in India to be granted such a coveted grade. The University scored a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.26 on a 4-point scale.
The five–year Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) Program at Chitkara School of Planning & Architecture, Chitkara University, Punjab is approved by Council of Architecture (COA)—a statutory body constituted by the Government of India to regulate the education and practice of the profession of architecture throughout India, besides maintaining the registration of architects.
The four-year Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) Program at Chitkara College of Pharmacy, Chitkara University, Punjab is approved by Pharmacy Council of India (PCI)—a statutory body of Government of India established to regulate pharmacy education in the country for the purpose of registration as a pharmacist under the Pharmacy Act, and the profession and practice of pharmacy in the country.
Teacher education programs namely B.Ed. and M.Ed. offered by Chitkara College of Education at Chitkara University, Punjab are duly recognized by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE)—a statutory body of the Government of India established for planned and coordinated development of teacher education system throughout the country.

The three-year Bachelor of Science degree in Hospitality and Hotel Administration offered at Chitkara School of Hospitality is recognized by and affiliated to National council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT)—a statutory body of Ministry of Tourism, Government of India established to ensure a uniform system of training manpower for the hospitality industry.
The Bar Council of India (BCI) is a statutory body established by Parliament of India under the Advocates Act, 1961. The BCI performs multiple functions to promote and regulate the legal education and legal profession in India. Some of its functions related to the regulation of legal education include grant recognition to Universities whose degree in law will serve as qualification for enrolment as an advocate, prescribing standards of legal education and professional conduct, inspect Universities, approve recognition, on a reciprocal basis, to the foreign qualifications in law obtained outside India, for the purpose of admission as an advocate in India, establishing law libraries, conduct seminars and talks on legal topics by eminent jurists and publish journals and papers of legal interest etc. BCI performs these functions in consultation with the Universities in India imparting legal education and the State Bar Councils.

The Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) of Chitkara University, Punjab is recognized & registered under the Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA), a statutory Committee, established under Chapter 4, Section 15(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960 of Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Ministry of Fisheries.

Chitkara University was granted prestigious membership of Association of Indian Universities in 2013. Association of Indian Universities (AIU) is an organization and association of major universities in India.
The AIU is mainly concerned with the recognition of Degrees/Diplomas awarded by the Universities in India & abroad, which are recognized by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi, and abroad for the purpose of admission to higher degree courses in Indian Universities. The AIU is also an implementing agency for the agreements signed under the Cultural Exchange Programmes executed between India and other countries.
Chitkara University was granted as an Affiliate Member of The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), which is a multidisciplinary professional engineering institution. The IET was formed in 2006 from two separate institutions: (IEE) and (IIE). The IET’s main offices are in Savoy Place in London, England.
In the United Kingdom, the IET has the authority to establish professional registration for the titles of Chartered Engineers, Incorporated Engineers, Engineering Technicians, and ICT Technicians, as a licensed member institution of the Engineering Council. The IET is registered as a charitable organization in England and Wales, and in Scotland.
Chitkara University, Punjab through its sponsoring trust “Chitkara Educational Trust”, is recognized as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisations (SIROs) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) under the Scheme on Recognition of Scientific and Industrial Research Organisations (SIROs), 1988. The recognition will entitle the SIRO to receive such administrative support from the DSIR, Ministry of Science & Technology as may be required on issue to promote or encourage scientific research Activities at university.
