ESG Training Program

In a significant stride towards academic excellence and sustainability, thirty students from Chitkara University participated in an intensive eight-day programme on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG Training Program) principles at the prestigious Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) Extension in Thailand. This programme, held at one of the world’s top 200 institutions as per the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2024, underscores Chitkara University’s commitment to fostering global competencies and sustainability awareness among its students.

The diverse cohort, comprising students from the Integrated Programme in Management (IPM), Liberal Arts, Engineering, Design, and Physiotherapy, engaged in a rigorous curriculum designed to deepen their understanding of ESG principles. The programme aimed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to drive sustainable practices in various professional fields, aligning with global sustainability goals.

The programme commenced with a warm welcome from Dr. Voravate Chonlasin, Executive Director of AIT Extension. Dr. Chonlasin emphasised the importance of ESG principles in today’s interconnected world and highlighted AIT’s role in promoting sustainability through education. Following the opening remarks, the students participated in an enlightening session on “ESG Training Programin Today’s World,” led by esteemed ESG expert Ms. Prae Piromya. Ms. Piromya’s session provided a comprehensive overview of the critical role ESG Training Program plays in advancing sustainable development and corporate responsibility.

Throughout the eight days, students engaged in various interactive sessions, workshops, and case studies that covered a broad spectrum of ESG topics. These included environmental stewardship, social equity, corporate governance, and their intersections with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The programme’s structure allowed students to explore real-world applications of ESG principles and their impact on global and local scales.

The training culminated in a series of presentations where students showcased their key takeaways from the program. These presentations demonstrated a thorough understanding of ESG principles and their alignment with specific SDGs such as Good Health and Well-being (Goal 3), Quality Education (Goal 4), Gender Equality (Goal 5), Affordable and Clean Energy (Goal 7), Decent Work and Economic Growth (Goal 8), Reduced Inequalities (Goal 10), Responsible Consumption and Production (Goal 12), Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions (Goal 16), and Partnerships for the Goals (Goal 17). The students’ insights reflected their ability to translate theoretical knowledge into practical solutions, underscoring the programme’s success in fostering a new generation of sustainability leaders.

Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Pro Chancellor of Chitkara University, praised the collaboration with AIT Extension, stating, “This programme is a testament to our commitment to providing our students with global exposure and a deep understanding of sustainable practices. The knowledge and skills gained through this initiative will empower our students to contribute meaningfully to societal and environmental well-being.”
