LAKSHYA travels 50 laps at Shell ECO Marathon Asia
Team Lakshya had decided they will not let their efforts of the last year go waste when the event was called off thus, they tweaked and perfected the car in such a way that there was no room left for any technical glitch, which could stall the car at any moment. So, they stood by what they promised and got the same car shipped to Philippines to compete with 113 Asian teams at the Luneta Park circuit in February, 2014.
The team romped their way into the competition with the cargo being delivered on time without any major infraction on the car. The Urban Concept gasoline category had 13 teams participating amongst a total of 113 teams in other categories of the competition. The team romped their way into the competition with the cargo being delivered on time without any major infraction on the car, which participated in their respective categories but, Chitkara University’s Team Lakshya was the First to clear the Technical Inspection and Safety check and to be allowed to run their car on the 1.2 km designer track at Philippines.
The car had a lustrous body shell finish owing to high quality carbon fibre being the only Indian team using it to shed the shell weight from previous year’s 25 kg to mere 7.85 kg without compromising on the car’s outer strength. The car design was aerodynamically tested and was powered by a Honda 125 CC engine clubbed with Royal Enfield’s gearbox to cancel the engine losses and assuring transmission efficiency.
Team Lakshya was the only team to have five valid runs on the track in the scorching heat of Philippines and generated a fuel efficiency of 56 kmpl with no technical failures on or off the track. There was no other Indian team, which was able to match that at the big stage.
Team Lakshya signed off the event on a personal high by perching onto the 5th rank overall in the competition. The team stands incomplete without the untiring help of the faculty and management at Chitkara University and promises to make it bigger next time around with greener initiatives under inception.
