Chitkara University hosts 6th BOCCIA National Championship

Chitkara University, Punjab hosted 50 players from 17 States for the 6th BOCCIA National Championship 2021-22 from March 17th, 2022 to March 21st, 2022. The Guest of Honor for the event was Sh. Avinash Rai Khanna, Ex Member Parliament and Vice President, Indian Red Cross Society. He, along with Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Pro Chancellor, Chitkara University facilitated the winners of the Championship.

Boccia (pronounced bot-cha) is a Paralympic sport with no Olympic equivalent and is similar to bowls. The game is played on a flat, smooth surface, usually indoors, with a court the size of a badminton court. From a seated position, players propel balls to land as close as possible to a white marker ball, known as the Jack. Two sides compete as individuals, pairs or as a team of three over a set number of ends (4 for individuals and pairs, and 6 for teams).

In India “Para Boccia Sports Welfare Society (India)” Was The First Organization That Was Formed In 2014 By Mr.Jaspreet Singh Dhaliwal, An International Player Taekwondo, And Later In 2016 Registered It With The Registrar Of Co-Operative Societies, Chandigarh, As It’s Founding President. Which Is Now The Governing Body Of Boccia In India. It Is Recognized By Both, Boccia International Sports Federation, London, And The Paralympic Committee Of India, New Delhi. Boccia India Develops And Promotes Boccia With The Help Of The State Sports Association Affiliated With It. The Head Office Of Boccia India Is Located In Bathinda, Punjab While The Registered Office Is In Ablu, Bathinda. India Starts The International Journey At Boccia Regional Championship Held In Dubai, UAE In 2017. Boccia India Big Achievement Indian Team Take Part In Asian Para Games Held In Jakarta, Indonesia In 2018.

The Championship was formally organized by Para Boccia Sports Welfare Society of India. Para Boccia Sports Welfare Society India is a non-profit organisation, established in 2016 that works primarily in the domain of Gender, Sports, Minority, Human Rights, Specially Abled and Child & Youth Development. It comes under the Paralympic Committee of India which is affiliated to the International Paralympic Committee, Bonn Germany and recognized by the Government of India.
