Chitkara University organises Dissemination Event on ‘Combat Antibiotic Resistance: One Health Approach’
Leading the Erasmus+ (European Union) funded project on ‘Risk Management and Prevention of Antibiotics Resistance – Prevent IT’, Chitkara University, Punjab, organised the first Dissemination Event on ‘Combat Antibiotic Resistance: One Health Approach’, at the campus on November 5, 2019.
The event brought together students, academicians, industry experts and researchers to the first dissemination event as part of the ERASMUS + funded project (European Union) entitled “Risk Management and Prevention of Antibiotics Resistance: PREVENT IT”. The key aim of the event was to create awareness regarding the goals of the PREVENT IT Project as well as discuss the importance of “One Health” approach to fight ABR. Deliberations & discussions on ‘our contribution’ to combat this situation to help the society at large were also held.
The event comprised of insightful Lecture Series by experts from the healthcare industry; and an impactful Panel Discussion titled, ‘Combat ABR: Bridge the Gap’. Students also pitched in by presenting a thought-provoking skit to sensitize the audience about the seriousness of ABR and suggested measures to prevent its irrational use. A Poster Making, as well as Logo Designing Contest, was also held to engage & enlighten students. Prominent dignitaries & keynote speakers who were in attendance for the event included, Dr. Hemraj Nandanwar, Senior Principal Scientist, IMTECH, Chandigarh; Prof. Prince Sharma, Department of Microbiology, Panjab University; Dr. Anita Sharma, Medical Microbiologist, Fortis Hospital, Mohali; Dr. Neelam Taneja, Professor – Department of Medical Microbiology, PGIMER, Chandigarh; and Prof. R Kumar, Founder President, SPEAK. Around 500 participants from Medical Sciences, Allied Health Sciences, Physiotherapy, Optometry and Healthcare Management were a part of the event.
The Dissemination Event, organised by Chitkara School of Health Sciences, was held to mark World Antibiotic Awareness Week, which is celebrated all over the globe from November 14-24, and aims to increase awareness of global antibiotic resistance and further encourage best practices among the general public, health workers and policymakers to avoid the further emergence and spread of antibiotic resistance.
