FDP on ‘Teaching Methodology in Creative Art’ explores Art & Inquiry for New Age

Chitkara School of Art & Design in association with Chitkara School of Planning & Architecture; organised Faculty Development program ‘Teaching Methodology in Creative Art’ for the faculty, at the campus, on May 27-28, 2019.

Prof. (Dr.) Pradosh Mishra, HOD, Department of History of Art, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi; was the Resource Person for the workshop.

On Day-1, while addressing the faculty, Prof. Mishra indicated several points in the context of teaching mythology in creative arts. He said that physical and emotional infrastructure is required to make an effective teaching-learning environment. He also emphasised that a bridge between industry and academia is required to connect students to current industry trends. Prof. Mishra concluded the session for the day by suggesting a transparent evaluation system to create a healthy work environment so that we are able to work on future prospects through the help of alumni.

On Day-2, Prof. Mishra addressed the basic challenges for Art Practices in contemporary time. He said at the Bachelor’s Level methods, materials, skills and art history should be introduced, but at the Master’s Level idea-based experimental practices should be initiated. Prof. Mishra pointed out that in contemporary art teaching, the final product is not important but the process which is adopted by the students is more important because it involves methods, materials, skills and human resources clubbed with technology. In this context, he also suggested that Master’s Level experimentation should be multi-phased, multi-dimensional and thus requires the involvement of various professionals. Then, we should make sure that the artworks are cross-checked by the academicians, industry experts, critics, professionals and entrepreneurs.
Prof. Mishra also suggested that the classroom should be turned into a debate room, from time to time, so that students and teachers can debate the contemporary problems and form a bridge between academia and industry – thus expanding the classroom.

To conclude, Prof. Mishra added that research motivations are need of the hour in Masters and PhD Level so that students are able to trace the real problem of the society, as well as industry, and adopt appropriate tools to resolve the problems. This, he suggested, will make our students efficient in resolving the problems for the sake of social as well as creative art industry development.
