‘Woman of Substance’ Dr. Madhu Chitkara honoured for breaking the glass ceiling

Women indeed have the power to change the world. Hon’ble Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Chairperson, Chitkara International School, Vice-Chancellor, Chitkara University; and Co-founder of Chitkara Educational Trust; has always made sincere efforts to make the institutions she is associated with, a place where future is shaped. She has been consistently working towards enriching the learning experience of the students starting from pre-primary level to doctoral level and has led ….. successful transformation from one level to another, keeping in sync with the ever growing, ever evolving and changing industry dynamics. She truly reflects the image of a women entrepreneur who is breaking all stereotypes.

In recognition of her excellent work in the field of education and genuine contribution to society, Dr Madhu Chitkara was honoured with the title ‘Women of Substance’, and presented with the ‘Jury Award’ during TLJ Women’s Achievers Awards 2019, ceremony hosted by The Lifestyle Journalist magazine. As many as 35 women, shortlisted from over 350 nominations, from the region were presented the ‘Roll of Honour’ and ‘Jury Awards’ for their commendable work in their respective fields at the ceremony held in Chandigarh, on March 6, 2019. Those felicitated comprised women from all walks of life, from doctors who are bringing latest technology in their field and staying ahead of times to young female politicians who are leading their districts and panchayats, entrepreneurs who excelled in their businesses and turned around their ventures into profitable occupation, social workers who have been tirelessly and genuinely contributing to society, leading interior designers and women from fashion business.

The event commenced with a panel discussion on the ‘biggest challenges of a women’s lives and how they overcome it’. Panelists included Dr Madhu Chitkara, Vice Chancellor, Chitkara University; Dr Surbhi Dahiya, Course Director, English Journalism, IIMC, New Delhi; Ria Sharma, Author & recipient of the UNICEF 2017 Global Award, for her work on acid attack victims (with her non-profit organisation – Make Love Not Scars); Vivek Atray, Author & Motivational Speaker; and Nilambari Jagdale, the first woman SSP of Chandigarh.

During the panel discussion, Dr. Madhu Chitkara shared her inspirational life story and her take on life, business and family. Through her empowering dialogue, she stunned the listeners and inspired them at the same time.
