NSS volunteers attend adventure camp
It was time to explore adventure and encourage fitness. Our NSS volunteers were on a trip of a lifetime as they learnt the nuances of being fit and healthy. Students Suryamani (IVth-Year B.Pharm) and Shalesh (IIIrd-Year Mechanical Engineering), were chosen to represent Chitkara University for the National Adventure Camp – an initiative taken up by the Government of India to train selected NSS Volunteers from across the Country in Mountain Training Program.
During the training program, students learnt some basic exercises, along with advanced techniques of Rappelling, Rock Climbing, Trekking, River Crossing, Climbing & Hiking. Students also had to participate in Drills that taught them about the safety measures, rescue operations etc. under the supervision of experts and professionals in the tough mountaineering terrains.
The motto of NSS “Not Me But You”, was maintained and followed by the students as it reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service. NSS helps the students develop appreciation to other person’s point of view and show due consideration to other living beings. Students were told that in order to help others, it is vital to stay healthy yourself and the philosophy of the NSS is well doctrined in this motto, which underlines that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society on the whole.
The National Adventure Camp – an initiative of Government of India, regularly promotes various adventure activities among NSS volunteers to infuse a sense of love towards the various regions of our magnificent country. The camp aims to enhance leadership qualities, fraternity, team spirit and risk-taking capacity, of the students.
