Chitkara students bring laurels to Punjab in National Skill Competition

Punjab have brought laurels to the state by winning 8 medals in National Skill Competitions 2018, which includes 3 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze and 2 Medallions. Among these are 3 students from Chitkara College of Applied Engineering, Chitkara University. These competitions were held at Aurangabad, Chennai & Delhi from October 2-5, 2018.

Chitkara University is extremely proud of students Himanshu Vohra (Diploma in Civil Engineering) bagged the Gold Medal in Plumbing and Heating Skill, and Vinayak Sharma (B.Tech in Electrical Engineering) won a Silver Medal in Industrial Control Skill. Both students will represent India at the World Skills Competition scheduled to be held in Russia in 2019. Student Amitoj Singh Sethi (B.E in Mechanical Engineering) was presented with the Medallion of Excellence in Automotive Technology.

Minister for Technical Education & Industrial Training and Employment Generation, Mr Charanjit Singh Channi congratulated the winners and the team of Punjab Skill Development Mission for this achievement. He said that the Punjab Government will provide free training to the Youth of the State to make them skilled and employable as per the needs of the global industry.

The minister further added that Punjab government under the Punjab Skill Development Mission will felicitate the winners of National Skill Competitions and ensure that these candidates make their way to the best careers. The winners will be trained by India Skills Team further to represent India in World Skill Competition scheduled in 2019 at Kazan, Russia.

The Secretary Technical Education & Industrial Training cum Member Secretary Punjab Skill Development Mission, Mr D.K. Tiwari, mentioned that it is for the first time Punjab Skill Development Mission organized skill competitions in Punjab in 42 skills in which 4,800 candidates participated at the Zonal Level. The winners of Zonal Skill Competitions competed in State Skill Competitions held in 26 skills at 20 venues. PSDM facilitated training of these candidates in Industry and Centres of Excellence in Punjab and outside the State. After training, these 52 winners of State Skill Competitions participated in Regional Skill Competitions organized by India Skill held at Lucknow, Chennai, Jaipur and Bhuvneshvar. He said that 14 candidates continued their journey from regional skill competitions to National Skill Competitions.

Other winners of the National Skill Competition include Shubham and Soumayjit Dutta who won Gold Medals in Cyber Security and Cloud Computing, respectively. Yashjit and Gurvinder Kaur won Bronze Medal in CNC Milling and Concrete Construction, respectively. Shagun Vashisht and Sukhvir Singh were awarded Medallions of Excellence in Health & Social Care and Joinery. The winners were rewarded with the cash prize of Rs. 1Lakh, Rs. 75,000 and Rs. 50,000, respectively.
