World Leprosy Day is observed internationally on January 30 or its nearest Sunday to increase the public awareness of the Leprosy or Hansen’s Disease. This day was chosen in commemoration of the death of Mahatma Gandhi, the leader of India who understood the importance of leprosy.

On January 29th our BSc Nursing final year students of Chitkara College of Nursing have given health talk on awareness of Leprosy, its signs and symptoms, early diagnosis, dietary management, follow up and preventive aspects in rural community area Kalomajra under the supervision of Mrs Lija Mathew, Mrs Ankitha and Mrs Supreet. Leprosy is one of the oldest recorded diseases in the world. It is a chronic infectious disease that targets the nervous system, especially the nerves in the cooler parts of the body-the hands, feet and face.

Thus our Chitkara students took a positive step towards leprosy eradication program.
