The ‘Great Britain Debate’ UK’s premier debating competition held at Chitkara University

The ‘Great Britain Debate’, UK’s premier debating competition in India, was held at Chitkara University today. The team from Chitkara University, Punjab comprising Anirudh Singh and Tania Walia were the Runners-up.

Organised by the British Deputy High Commission Chandigarh and hosted by Chitkara University, the event saw stimulating debates on the topic “Should there be limits on the freedom of speech & expression?”

The debate was judged by an eminent jury consisting of Andrew Ayre, British Deputy High Commissioner Chandigarh; Vivek Atray, IAS (Retd), Motivational Speaker & Author and Jyoti Kamal, Cluster Head, Network 18.

The event aimed to celebrate and encourage debating prowess and offered an opportunity for informed discussion amongst the student fraternity.

Organised by the British High Commission Network in India, the Great Britain Debate competition is the biggest since its conception. In its fifth edition, the competition is being organised in ten cities- Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Vishakhapatnam, Hyderabad, Delhi, Kolkata, Dehradun, Jaipur, Chandigarh & Guwahati.

Teams from universities across Punjab, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh participated in the debate. The Chevening Scholarships programme is partnering with the British High Commission to organize the Great Britain Debate across India.
