Gurleen Kaur, our B. Pharmacy student adjudged the first runner-up Miss India Khadi-2017. The competition was organised by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) to promote khadi under the mission of PM Modi as ‘Khadi for nation, Khadi for fashion’. The final round of the competition was held at Hotel Taj, New Delhi on December 30, 2017.

Despite khadi being the most sought-after fabric in erstwhile India, it has lost its luster somewhere and to revive its magic, the contest was organized. The aim of the event was also to maintain a balance between tradition and modernity. Modernity cannot be overlooked for a nation to proper globally and this is what Gurleen also had in mind when she decided to be a part of the event. The event also promoted the fabric and gave it an impetus to sustain itself.

Earlier, she won Miss India Khadi – Himachal Pradesh on July 30. According to Pritmohider Singh, Gurleen’s father, from 22 states, three girls were selected. The contestants were wearing khadi clothes because it was an initiative to promote khadi.
Gurleen said that the contest is just the start for her and she will pursue her dream of hitting it big in the glamour industry.

Chitkara University congratulates Gurleen for this feat and wishes her the best of everything in future endeavours.
