Chitkara School of Health Sciences, Chitkara University, is selected as a partner of Erasmus+ Project, which is looking at Harmonisation of Optometry Curriculum between Europe and India.

The Project is named as OCULUS: Optometry Curriculum for Lifelong Learning through Erasmus. The Project partners are Higher Education Institutions (HEI) in Europe, Israel and India. Prof Keerti Bhusan Pradhan attended the first planning meeting at Barcelona on behalf of Chitkara University from 21-25 November, 2016.

The Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP) was designed to enable people, at any stage of their life, to take part in stimulating learning experiences, as well as developing education and training across Europe. It is indeed a matter of pride that Chitkara University has been associated with this program.

As a project partner of OCULUS project, Chitkara University would get the benefit of standardising the Optometry Curriculum in line with European curriculum and pilot it in its programme and be the lead institute in North India to share with other universities and institutes later.
Under the project mandate, there would be capacity building of faculty and staff on Evidence Based Practice (EBP) teaching and learning methods and on Pedagogy Transformation Plan (PTP). Chitkara University will have a simulator for the Optometry lab from the project worth 50,000 Euros.

In the North Indian region, Chitkara University is the first one to be part of such a prestigious International collaboration project.

Upon successful completion of this project and harmonisation of the European and Indian curriculum in Optometry, the students studied under that curriculum would have easy mobility to European countries for higher studies and higher education in the field of Optometry.

In the month of March 2017, representatives from ECOO would visit Chitkara School of Health Sciences, Chitkara University, to understand the existing curriculum and pedagogy and identify gaps for harmonisation and standardisation process.

With able faculty and a profound pedagogy in place, Chitkara School of Health Sciences, will shape up able professionals under this program with significant support from faculty members like Prof Keerti Bhushan Pradhan, Prof Preethi John, and others.
